Opinion: Our Neighborhood Needs Better Crosswalk Safety

I have lived in Itasca for over twelve years and I am genuinely concerned about pedestrian safety on our neighborhood's main roads. Over the past two years, I have personally witnessed three near-miss accidents at the intersection of Central Avenue and Oak Park Boulevard. The crosswalk lights have inadequate timing, the painted lines are badly faded, and there are no flashing pedestrian signals. I have written to our alderman twice but received only a form letter in response. I am urging our neighbors to attend the next city council public comment session and speak up. Our voices matter.
